Sarah Burghard has worked as a textile designer within the hospitality sector creating signature fabrics for boutique hotels, bars & cafès for over a decade. During the pandemic when hospitality was on it’s knees Sarah, like so many, pivoted to develop her skills & created an on-line styling service which brings her expertise to a far wider audience. Sarah works from her studio in Spike Island, Bristol & whilst no longer aboard her narrow boat, she remains close to the water living amongst the buzz of Whapping Wharf in the heart of the city.
Sarah is passionate about collaborating with talented creatives to keep her work fresh and deliver the best designs to clients. She works with an ever developing team of freelance designers, makers and digital creatives to bring your design to life.
As designers we should be ahead of the game and we are!
Our virtual services are changing the game, shaking things up & doing things differently to the traditional “Full interior design service.” We combine online tools with our innovative design skills, delivering helpful & accessible interior styling services to clients all over the UK.
Apparently I’m a lively and creative individual! I am proud & grateful to have lived an exciting and varied life to date. With many different chapters in all sorts of locations I have had a wide range of interesting experiences and worked alongside some incredible people & I think this enhances my creativity and ability to connect with clients on an emotional & practical level.
As a teenager I fulfilled my childhood dream by gaining a place at a classical drama school in central London where I trained and then worked as an actress for 10 years. My roles were in TV, West End and regional theatre, commercials and voice overs & yes, I have many a story to tell from my years in the spotlight!
The actress in me explains my love of story telling which is reflected in my design approach. We focus on creating interiors that truly reflect our client’s unique personality. Through creativity & digital printing we bring their personality into their interior scheme, fabric designs & bespoke products that are our unique icing on the interior design cake.
Professionally I trained as a Textile Designer later in life as a mature student & totally embraced going back into education. I gained distinctions in all my studies on an Art Foundation, an HND in Fine Art and studies on a BA in Textile Design at Central St Martins School of Art in London.
After 7 years of combining my studies with raising my children “Sarah Burghard Designs” SBD Ltd was launched at The Independent Hotel Show in 2012. Throughout my decade of experience within commercial interiors for the hospitality industry, I have developed an ability to bring my client’s projects to life with eye catching details and innovative ideas
Trough out my decade of experience within commercial interiors for the hospitality industry, I developed an ability to bring my client’s projects to life with eye catching details and innovative idea.
Personally I have lived in a wide variety of homes including small city flats in London, large Grade 2 listed family houses in Oxfordshire & the Cotswolds and all sorts in-between.
After living in the heart of the West End of London for 20 years, I also lived internationally in Jakarta, Indonesia whilst raising my two sons who are now old enough to be leading their own lives.
I also lived on a traditional narrow boat in Bristol Marina whilst waiting for my current property to be built. Living on the water was an amazing experience that was made especially memorable by sharing the 2020 lockdown with the wonderful Bristol boating community.
These adventurous chapters have taught me to appreciate the importance of styling your space carefully, no matter how big or small.
I am now settled on the beautiful harbour side in the eclectic city of Bristol whilst working virtually with clients all over the UK and beyond.
