Beautifully built and fitted out with quality wooden furniture, kitchenettes and bathrooms these brand new lodges were a blank canvas which felt impersonal, dominated by wood and not yet cosy or inviting.

Sarah Burghard Designs created a unique product range drawing on the local flora and fauna to inject colour, texture and individuality to each of the lodges.

For the family lodges, Sarah hand-drew images of local reed beds and feathers and digitally manipulated them to create textile designs for cushions, lamp shades, reclaimed elm lamp bases and wall decor. These accessories lifted the interiors, giving visually exciting pops of colour that draw on the views outside but are sympathetic to the architecture and context.

The bridal lodge takes a tweed and plaid direction, avoiding the cliché of “romantic red” by using sheepskin rugs, soft linens and layers of natural textures with an earthy palette: a snuggled up feeling for the happy couple’s cosy hide-away.

Sarah’s design highlight – Creating a pen & ink drawing of the stunning reed beds that was developed into a colourful fabric design for the range of accessories.
